Hip Upper West Side Apartment – Manhattan, NY

We were ecstatic to get a call from a previous client letting us know that she was recently engaged and purchasing her first home with her new fiancé. This two-bedroom flat on the Upper West Side of Manhattan had the perfect blank canvas. We had a great time collaborating with the couple’s individual and unique styles using brass accents and interesting fabrics in this elegant mid-century modern design.

In the living room and den, custom built-ins were installed to display his large comic book collection and mementos from both their travels. The cleverly screened center doors let all the media equipment breathe and allow remote access, while under-mounted shelf lighting and picture lights set the mood for parties or movie nights. Double shades allowed for privacy or blackout, all while sporting a fun, metallic-embroidered pattern by LeeJofa. The mix of furniture from the client's last apartment with newer pieces blends seamlessly, and the ceilings subtle sheen of metallic paint envelops the space in a warm glow.

The dining area and kitchen open to the living space with plenty of seating for an intimate dinner for two or a full-out bash. Function in these spaces was really important for our clients, who love to cook and entertain. To keep it functional, we treated the dining-room chair fabric to block red wine stains and added a fun, green-leather host chair for an unexpected pop of color.

The master bedroom got a special dose of copper leaf under the fretwork of the armoire doors, which inspired us to pull from autumn tones of deep aubergine, forest green, and rust orange—accents that really created a warm and cozy hideout away from cold winter days in the city.

Overall, we loved how our client's new home turned out. That’s all for now, until we meet again at house #3—the lake house?
